Motherhood

This was my first ever line drawing 6 years ago. As mother of a beautiful 1 year old little boy, I had just experienced a miscarriage that devastated me. This drawing helped me process the longing, loss and beauty of loving so fiercely.

Motherhood is a much more vast title than we give her credit for, more than we love her for.

For the mothers who are surrounded by laughter or cries of little voices, the mothers who have lost, who have held and been forced to say goodbye, who never got the chance to hold, those who are keeping vigil in the hospital, the mothers who are waiting, the ones who are other mothers- loving their best friend’s children as their own, those of us who have known heartache in all of her forms, you are seen and honored - you are a mother.
